A maritime incident has been reported in the vicinity of Alula, Somalia on March 13, 2017.  The nature of the event is reported to be a hijacking of a Comoros or Sri Lankan flagged oil tanker.  Mariners are advised to exercise caution when transiting this area.  Further updates will be provided when available.  This alert will automatically expire on March 21, 2017.  Any questions regarding this alert should be directed to MARSEC@state.gov.
