MARAD partnered with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to broadly analyze the technological feasibility as well as the theoretical costs and benefits of electrifying a segment of the U.S. Domestic Fleet. This analysis was conducted using available vessel databases and was limited to vessels less than 1000 GT.
